Liberty Hill ISD Board of Trustees Approve the 2026-27 Academic Calendar

Posted Date: 03/09/26 (10:37 PM)

The Liberty Hill ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2026–27 academic calendar during the March 9, 2026 regular board meeting. The calendar was developed through a thoughtful five-month process that included input from stakeholders across the district. A Calendar Advisory Committee was formed, and survey feedback was reviewed with the District Educational Improvement Committee (DEIC), the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee, teachers, and parents before a final recommendation was presented to the Board.

Several key factors were considered in developing the calendar. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires districts to provide 75,600 operational minutes each year, defined as the time from the first instructional bell starting the school day to the instructional bell ending the school day. In addition, districts may apply for a staff development waiver for up to 2,100 minutes, which are more favorably considered when districts schedule more than 165 instructional days with a majority of five-day school weeks. Survey feedback also showed that many parents and staff value student holidays aligned with state and federal holidays and staff development days spread out throughout the year.

The approved calendar has less instructional minutes per day. The transportation department is currently completing a transportation efficiency audit that reviews staffing, stops and routes.  Once the audit is completed in early April, the district will make a final determination on start and end time adjustments, and we’ll share that information with staff and families.

With the approved 2026–27 academic calendar, the first day of school will be Aug. 12, 2026. Several student and staff holidays also align with federal holidays, creating extended weekends that allow families and staff time to schedule appointments, travel, and recharge during the school year.2026-27 Academic Calendar

The calendar also includes the following early release days:

  • October 2 (LHHS vs LRHS Football Game)

  • November 20 (before Thanksgiving Holiday break)

  • December 17 (before Christmas Holiday break)

  • March 12 (before Spring Break)

  • May 27 (Last day of School)

In addition to several federal holidays that coincide with weekends, the district will also observe the following breaks:

  • Thanksgiving Break: Nov. 23 - 27

  • Winter Break: Dec. 18 - Jan. 4 for staff and Dec. 18 - Jan. 5 for students.

  • Spring Break: March 15–19.

Graduation for the Class of 2027 will be held May 28, 2027.

Superintendent Travis Motal thanked the community and staff for sharing their feedback throughout the process. “We appreciate our staff and community members who took the time to provide feedback and work through several calendar options with us,” Motal said. “Your input helped us arrive at a calendar that best supports our students, staff, and families for the 2026–27 school year.”
